Saratoga Economic Development Corporation Enlists Community to Name its Entrepreneur & Early Stage Business Accelerator
Online Voting Underway, Acclaimed Film Regional Premier to Kickoff Incubator in April
Saratoga Springs, NY — As part of its Advance Saratoga Startup initiative to promote, retain and grow business and jobs in the region, the Saratoga Economic Development Corporation (SEDC) announced formation of a entrepreneur incubator in February supported by peer mentors, capital networks and academic entrepreneur centers across the region. Now, SEDC is enlisting community input to develop the permanent name of its business accelerator. Through Friday, March 31st, the public can vote at www.nametheincubator.com for their top three names. The winning name will be unveiled at an event with regional community and business leaders, entrepreneurs and students featuring the regional premiere of the movie Generation Startup! on April 12th at Bow Tie Cinemas in Saratoga Springs, NY at 5:30 pm.
Generation Startup! is an acclaimed movie and captures the struggles and triumphs of six recent college graduates who put everything on the line to build startups in Detroit. Shot over 17 months, it’s an honest, in-the-trenches look at what it takes to launch a startup. Directed by Academy Award winner Cynthia Wade and award-winning filmmaker Cheryl Miller Houser, the film celebrates risk-taking, urban revitalization, and diversity while delivering a vital call-to-action-with entrepreneurship at a record low, the country’s economic future is at stake. You can check out the trailer to the movie here: http://www.generationstartupthefilm.com/#trailer
“We know Saratoga County has enjoyed recent success,” said Dennis Brobston, President of SEDC. “We also know it requires constant innovation to remain competitive. We have the benefit of talented, community focused successful entrepreneurs and professionals in our area. Launching this early stage company accelerator and startup incubator will position us to support small business growth and retain more talent to invest and create jobs here at home.”
SEDC will facilitate a brief panel discussion immediately following the film. The 20-30 minute discussion will be among three panelists and is intended to present local entrepreneurs observations of the film and alignment with their own startup or early stage business challenges. After the discussion, SEDC will invite ticketed guests to network and enjoy refreshments sponsored by local business, Circus Cafe, in the theater cafe.
Saratoga Economic Development Corporation is a community funded and community led organization. SEDC heard from too many that talented local entrepreneurs need more support around their next generation of great business ideas to retain their businesses in Saratoga County and the capital region. That led to the launch of the Advance Saratoga Startup initiative as a means to retain and attract talent that will foster the next generation of business innovation and job creation. Stay tuned for future social media posts and media releases on how to apply for help from the new incubator supported by proven business mentors and the renowned Clarkson University Shipley Center for Innovation. Watch for postings on how to get tickets for the regional premiere of Generation Startup! Meanwhile, the public can put its mark on the permanent name of this entrepreneur accelerator by voting through Tuesday, March 28th at www.nametheincubator.com.
